After long, drawn out negotiations, ILWU Local 6 members working at Georgia Pacific voted to go on strike. They were fed up with the company undervaluing their work with lowball proposals.

As inflation hurts the purchasing power of working class people, these workers understood that they needed to fight to get what they deserved.

On September 16, 2024, the workers walked off the job. They were followed by members of the international Association of machinist, IAM local 1584.

On the first day on the picket line, Antioch mayor Lamar Thorpe joined in solidarity with the members in the picket line.
